Safety glass: More security

A conventional disk is of no importance in terms of safety. Safety-relevant features emerge only through further processing into a composite of several panes and/or the combination of foils or special resins. One method is to manufacture or retrofit safety glazing precisely according to certain criteria and obstacle classifications. When it comes to retrofitting, the sun protection, the privacy screen and the easy-to-clean coating should be mentioned.

Insulating glass is created by combining two panes with spacers and a seal to create a hermetically sealed air gap that has excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties.

Single-pane safety glass

If you heat flat glass to approx. 670 degrees Celsius, i.e. above its transformation temperature and then cool it down suddenly, a specially heat-treated pane is created. The near-surface zones of the glass cool faster than the inner core and this creates tensile stress in the core and compressive stress in the surface. The so-called single-pane safety glass must be cut and processed before the heat treatment; subsequent processing is no longer possible or only possible to a very limited extent. The result of the heat treatment is a disc with increased shock and impact resistance. In addition, the toughened safety glass is insensitive to large temperature differences. In addition to the automotive industry, the glass is also used in the commercial and private sectors. In the event of a break due to accident or intent, it effectively prevents cuts and impacts.

Only laminated safety glass can provide effective protection against burglars. It is mainly used for all-glass systems, all-glass doors and shop windows. Here, two panes of single-pane safety glass are worked together with a PVB film. The laminated glass can have the following properties by means of special coatings or foils:

anti-fall

 impact resistant

 break-through-resistant

 bullet resistant

 explosion-resistant
