Conventional glass swing doors are the usual “classic” option. They look quite traditional and are great for spacious rooms. Swing doors are mounted in a wooden or aluminum frame. There are also options on sale without a frame, only on hinges. However, if you need good sound insulation, it is better to choose the frame option.
A sliding glass door is a very good option for zoning adjacent rooms, with a wide doorway. For example, a sliding door fits perfectly between the dining room and the living room, or the common room and the study. Sliding glass doors can be installed in different sizes – after all, a wide sliding door is not attached to vertical hinges, but is fixed in the upper or lower part (or at the top and bottom at the same time) with special horizontal guides.
Swing doors are well- suited for a hallway and living space zoning. It is recommended installing such doors in a house where a large family live. pendulum doors do not need to be opened / closed – just push the door and go through the doorway – it will close itself. The swing door perfectly zones the space and lets in enough light. The only serious drawback of this type of door is the minimum sound insulation.
Sliding glass doors, accordion
Despite the fact that sliding glass doors significantly save space, they require an impressive margin on the sides, where the door leaf enters. Sliding doors are best used in rooms with high ceilings, since you need to fix a massive mechanism above the doorway.
The accordion-type glass door is a rather innovative solution. Today, designers have begun to actively use it as an alternative to sliding canvases. Since the door consists of a set of sections, it can be used over the entire width of the wall. If a sliding door needs a margin of space on the sides for the door leaf, then the accordion simply folds up and can remain within the doorway. Door sections can be framed or left with open edges. When choosing an accordion-type door, one should focus not only on their functionality, but also on their appearance.
