Glass stairs

Glass stairs are popular components in interior design. With their floating appearance and transparency, they seem to connect floors invisibly and create a puristic ambiance. Nowadays, steps, railings or platforms made of special safety glass are possible; All-glass stairs can also be built from it. The glass can be clear, tinted or satined. Coatings, printed glass and integrated lights conjure up unique designs. However, a head for heights is a must. Because when you walk you sometimes look many meters into the depth.

Almost we can make every staircase shape from glass today. Depending on your requirements, we combine glass with materials such as wood, stainless steel and concrete, or installed as an all-glass staircase. The latter is self-supporting stair systems made entirely of laminated glass. In the case of such requests, specialist companies take over the planning of the statics and discuss with you how the stairs can be implemented.

Safety plays an important role with accessible glass. That is why statics, breakthrough security and slip resistance are the focus of every planning. The substructure of such all-glass stairs consists of a special safety glass that must be approved for pedestrian traffic.

We build up the laminated safety glass, also called bulletproof glass in the usual jargon, in three layers, which make the glass accessible. We consider the top layer a wear layer and we often make them of toughened safety glass. The two lower layers of glass form the “load-bearing” function. We connect all layers with a tear-resistant PVB film. If the glass breaks, the statics of the stairs must be given for at least another 30 minutes. Possible fragments of glass adhere to the film for safety reasons. So that you don’t slip on the glass stairs, you comply with the slip resistance classes that are specified.
