From a purely intuitive point of view, you can quickly assume that a glass door will simply break. Isn’t glass sensitive and fragile?! Well, in fact, not all glass is the same, the panes of a glass door are something completely different from, say, a wine glass. Modern glass doors are all made of single-pane safety glass (ESG). Modern thermal production processes – with strong heating and rapid cooling – allow the production of glass that is not only robust and shockproof, but also resistant to bending. And should it break – for which extreme blows are necessary – it crumbles into small, largely harmless crumbs (the same glass is also used on the windows of a car). In the case of laminated safety glass (VSG), two ESGs are even firmly connected to one another using an internal film. The inner film can also provide attractive visual effects, with the advantage that it is protected from damage or soiling by the outer panes. Doors with laminated safety glass are even more robust than glass doors made of single-pane safety glass and, in comparison, have once again increased sound and thermal insulation.
Transparent, Matt or Satin: How safe are glass doors?
Basically, it can be said that glass doors are friends of light. Not only that they basically provide a lot of brightness. Various surface treatments from matting and satin finishing to tinting, in combination with the changing light, create attractive effects. Day and night, daylight or artificial light. Each time the character of the glass door changes in an interesting way! Of course, the different forms of processing can be cheerfully mixed or supplemented with grooved grinding or interesting applications, for example with fused glass elements, or colored screen printing motifs applied by screen printing / laser. Black, opaque glasses with an elegant porcelain-like surface are a very special highlight. Amazing what is possible with glass doors with modern technology!
