Choosing the window types

Choosing the window types

When choosing the type of window according to size, you can orientate yourself on the direction of the compass to which the house or facade is oriented.

Selection criteria for north orientation

Since there is the least light from the north, the choice for the north facade can be limited to small types of windows. However, if that little bit of light is to be used effectively during the day, for example because a study is to be set up on the north side of the house, then it is important to choose large-format windows with particularly good thermal insulation properties. Expensive sun protection is not needed here, maybe a privacy screen.

Selection criteria for the east and west facade of windows

On the other hand, things look different with the east and west facades of the house or apartment. A little light can be used here. The choice of floor-to-ceiling window types is a good idea in this case. These should then already be provided with appropriate sun protection.

Selection criteria for windows on the south side

After all, a lot of light and thus also heat comes from the south. Large types of windows ensure optimal use of free solar heat and healthy, energy-saving daylight. When choosing the right window, however, as with roof windows, it is important to protect against too much sunlight in the summer. The options range from sun protection glazing to blinds, pleated blinds, external venetian blinds, awnings and shutters through to roller shutters. Daylight systems can also provide pleasant illumination of the rooms and reduce glare help the sun.
